We all have heard about Territorial Army which is also known as Citizen’s Army or Terries. They have set a very high benchmark in terms of professionalism and operational excellence. Territorial Army is part of Indian Army which is manned by officers and men who have done training for two months in a year. The actual role of the Territorial Army is during national emergencies and war and also to support Indian Army when they relieve for operations. The role of Territorial Army also includes guards vital installations like Headquarters, Ammunitions Dumps and Airports etc.

Lt Col (Hony) Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev

He has been granted with the Honorary Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in TA on 24 September 2008 in infantry battalions  (TA) PUNJAB. Under his captainship in Indian cricket team has won various matches including One Day International World Cup in 1983. On  23rd July 2002, he was also honored with the award “ Wisden Indian  Cricketer of the Century”.

Lt Col (Hony) MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni

He was also one of those constant warrior who has been granted the Honorary Rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 02 September 2011 in Infantry Battalion (TA) PARA. He has served more than 10 years in Indian Cricket team. Lieutenant MS Dhoni has led the Indian Cricket Team as a Captain and won various matches like T-20 World Cup in 2007 and in ODI World Cup in 2011 and other championships.

Lt Col (Hony) Abhinav Bindra

He was granted as a Honorary Rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 02 September 2011 and was commissioned in 124 Infantry Battalion (TA) SIKH. Lt Abhinav Bindra as we all know is one of the brightest star and talented Indian Shooters and who has won the first individual Gold Medal at the Olympics in 2010 . He has also won Gold Medal in Men’s 10 meter Air Rifle event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Brigadier Kapil Mohan

Brigadier Kapil Mohan

He was Commissioned on 20 May 1959, and also devoted himself in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars. He was a Chairman & Managing Director of Mohan Meakin Limited. In 2001, he was awarded by Himachal Ratna by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. He died due to cardiac arrest on 6th January 2018.

He was granted Honorary Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Infantry Battalion (TA) MADRAS on 19 May 2009 He was an artist with immense talent who has been toiled through the unpredictable world of cinema in Kerala since 1977. The Malyam actor was formally piped in at the ceremony held in South Block by Former Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor .

He served as a Congress leader and was later appointed as Deputy chief minister of Rajasthan. He is first Union Minister commissioned as a regular officer in the Territorial Army. Sachin Pilot also cleared the written exam conducted by TA in 2015, along with the  Service Selection Board (SSB) interview at Allahabad. He joined the force as a Lieutenant and completed training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.

He was the MP and President BCCI who was commissioned to the Territorial Army (TA) in the rank of Lieutenant. He was conferred the ranks by General Dalbir Singh, the former COAS, in a solemn ‘Commissioning’ ceremony which was held at Integrated Headquarters of MoD at the South Block in the presence of military dignitaries and his family members. Lieutenant Anurag Singh Thakur cleared Services Selection Board (SSB) and was found fit to join the Territorial Army. The officer was commissioned in 124 Inf Bn (TA) SIKH. He was welcomed by the Territorial Army by Maj Gen Surinder Singh, ADG TA.

He was commissioned in the Independent India’s first Air Defence TA Regiment on 01 Jun 1971. He had also participated in 1971 Indo-Pak war and also appointed as the Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the President of India in 1994. He has been awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 1994 for his services as a TA OfficerHe has served as the Minister of State for Defence from Jan 1983 to Dec 1984 and Minister of Information & Broadcasting from Jan 1993 to Sep 1995.

He was commissioned with antedate seniority from 13 Jun 1978. He was posted to 109 Inf Bn (TA) MARATHA Light Infantry on 01 Jun 1993 . He retired as the Deputy Director General TA (Inf) and was also the Member of Parliament.
